The latch for the rear armrest lid on Golf, Jetta and Passat.
Rear armrests get treated badly. They are folded down by passengers who are not being careful, leaned on by children, and loaded with things nobody would put on a front armrest. The latch is a small sprung catch holding a lid that gets a great deal more force than it was designed around.
Volkswagen sells the armrest. Upholstered, hinged, complete — for a catch that would fit in a matchbox.
Fitment: Golf, Jetta and Passat across the 2000s and 2010s. Armrest designs varied between models and generations in this period, so send a photo of the latch recess along with the model and year rather than relying on the model name alone.
