The clip covering the sunroof drain and motor housing on MK4 Golf and Jetta. A small part with expensive consequences.
When the clip cracks, the drain path is compromised and the sunroof cassette stops shedding water properly. What follows is the classic MK4 complaint: damp carpets, a smell that will not shift, and eventually water reaching the electrics under the seats. Owners often trace a wet footwell back through the door seals and the scuttle before arriving at a two-inch piece of plastic in the roof.
It also jams the mechanism, so the sunroof stops part-way and stays there.
Fitment: MK4 Golf and Jetta, 1999–2005. Tell us whether yours is the tilt-and-slide or the tilt-only roof — the housings differ and so do the clips.
