The heater and ventilation control knob from the S40 dashboard.
Volvo interiors of this period have aged better than most, which makes the failures that do occur more conspicuous. A missing or slipping climate knob stands out badly against a cabin that is otherwise holding together.
Availability is the problem rather than complexity. Volvo’s parts network has been reorganised more than once since these cars were current, and small interior components for the first-generation S40 have quietly dropped off the lists.
Fitment: Volvo S40. The first and second generations are entirely different cars with different climate panels, so specify which you have — the 2004 change is the dividing line.
