These fail by wearing through rather than breaking. The knob is turned every day for a decade or more, and the moulded detent inside gradually rounds off against the shaft splines. Eventually it spins freely and the fan setting becomes guesswork.
The printed markings go the same way — the temperature scale wears off first at the positions you use most, which are the ones you can least afford to lose.
Fitment: RAV4 across multiple generations. Toyota revised the climate panel more than once during the RAV4’s run, so give us the year. If your car has automatic climate control rather than manual dials, this is not the right part.
