There is a website devoted to this single part. Not a forum thread — a website. That is the clearest possible signal of how reliably the E9x dash vent tab fails and how unsatisfying BMW’s answer to it is.
The tab is the small adjuster you push to aim the air. It sits on a thin plastic stem, gets handled constantly, and eventually shears at the base. The vent still works; you just can no longer point it anywhere.
BMW sells the vent. The complete assembly, out of the dash, for a broken tab you could hold between two fingers. Several vendors now exist purely because of the gap between those two facts.
Fitment: E90, E91, E92 and E93 3-series, 2005–2013. Centre and outboard vents use different tabs, and there was a running change during the facelift — send a photo of the vent housing if you are unsure which you have.
